Curtain Players made a little magic of its own at the Ohio Community Theatre Association State Conference in Columbus September 1-4.
Curtain’s excerpt of Five Women Wearing the Same Dress won four awards at the annual meeting, this year themed The Magic Show.
The Five Women excerpt was recognized with awards for: Outstanding in Direction (Heather Schultz); Outstanding in Ensemble Performance (Sharifa Andrews, Lindsay Brooks, Allison Loeffert, Susie McQuarry, and Colleen Underwood); Outstanding in Costume Design (Julie Emmert Silvius), and Merit in Set Design (Neil Aring).
The Curtain Players excerpt received support from a technical crew comprised of stage manager Wendy Brinker, Izzy Brinker, Sean Brinker, Kathy Hyland, John Maassel, and Booth Muller.
Fourteen member theatres staged excerpts during this year’s state conference weekend. A panel of responders evaluated those presentations, offering constructive criticism and recognizing achievements in acting, direction, and stagecraft.
Curtain Players received the invitation to present Five Women at the state event in June at the OCTA Central Region Festival in Gambier. There, Five Women earned nine awards, the most given at that regional event.
Curtain Players last February staged the Alan Ball comedy-drama about bridesmaids gathered for a wedding. The eight performances played to nearly full and sold-out houses at the Harlem Road theatre.
