Curtain Players is seeking nominations for its two top awards, recognition that honors individuals who have made significant contributions and demonstrated extraordinary commitment and dedication to Curtain’s “community in theatre.”

The deadline to submit a nomination essay is Thursday May 31.

The Volunteer of the Year Award, presented annually, recognizes an individual who has gone “above and beyond the call of duty” for the community theatre company in the current season. The Curtain Players Board of Directors will select the recipient from nominations received by deadline. Jeff Cramlet received the 2017 honor.

The Richard D. Near Award, established and bestowed in memory of a longtime Curtain Players volunteer, is presented to an individual demonstrating “continued dedication to the advancement of Curtain Players.”  Near was an officer, board member, actor, director, and advocate who was instrumental in first developing the armory for local stage productions and then in the purchase and development of the Harlem Road playhouse more than 30 years ago.  The Near Award is not necessarily presented every year, rather only when the board of directors receives a nomination of someone deemed worthy of the honor.  The most recent recipient, Jill Taylor, received the award in 2017.

Written nominations (no more than 250 words) for both awards should be e-mailed to Vice President Casey Merkey at vice.president@curtainplayers.org The deadline is 11:59 PM Thursday May 31.  Nominations may be mailed to PO Box 1143, Westerville OH 43086, and must be received in the post office box no later than May 31 for consideration.

The board will review all submissions and make its decisions at its June meeting. Recipients will be announced during the Curtain Players season-end event Sunday June 24. Recipients receive plaques of their own and their names are added to plaques displayed in the playhouse lobby.
