  • Cast has 7 characters - 3 women, 4 men

  • SHE – (Female, age 40s-50s) A woman in her mid-forties returning to acting after a long break. She plays the role of Ada Wilcox in the first-act 1930s melodrama. Role includes some singing. Must be comfortable kissing multiple scene partners (HE, Kevin, Husband).
  • HE – (Male, age 40s-50s) A man in his mid-forties and SHE's former lover from 20 years prior. He is cast opposite her as the romantic lead, playing Johnny Lowell. Must be comfortable kissing scene partner (SHE).
  • Adrian Schwalbach (The Director) – (Male, 30s-50s) The eccentric, off-off-Broadway director overseeing the production.
  • Kevin/The Understudy/A Doctor/A Butler – (Male, 30s-40s) The nerdy reader at auditions who also doubles as the understudy, the doctor, and the butler. Must be comfortable kissing scene partner (SHE).
  • The Husband – (Male, 40s-50s) SHE's stable, grounded real-life husband who holds a pragmatic view of marriage. Must be comfortable kissing scene partner (SHE).
  • Actress / Angela – (Female, teens-early 20s) An actress in her early twenties who can believably play a teenager. She plays the maid in Act 1 and SHE's daughter, Angela, in Act 2.
  • Millicent / Laurie – (Female, Late 20s, early 30s) An actress in her late twenties or early thirties. She plays Millicent in Act 1 and Laurie in Act 2.

Art imitates Life. Life imitates Art. When two actors with a history are thrown together as romantic leads in a forgotten 1930s melodrama, they quickly lose touch with reality as the lines between offstage and onstage begin to blur.

Tull is a veteran Curtain Players director, having overseen productions of Wait Until Dark (2025), Arsenic and Old Lace (2018), Rabbit Hole (2017), You Can't Take It With You (2016), Picnic (2014), and All My Sons (2013). Where

Production Kickoff, auditions, and performances take place at:
Curtain Players Theatre
5691 Harlem Road, Galena, OH 43021

Curtain Players offers an information session for each of its productions as a help for actors seeking roles, but attendance is not required to audition. The event is an opportunity for actors to become acquainted with the community theatre organization, to discuss the play with the director, and to ask questions about the audition process, rehearsal period, and production plans. Those interested in working behind the scenes are also invited to attend.

Curtain Players conducts open auditions for its productions. Roles are not cast in advance, and, unless specified otherwise in the role's description, are open to all without regard to race or ethnicity. Casting decisions are made by the director and a casting committee comprised of (at minimum) a member of the theatre board, a general member of the organization, and individuals of the director's choosing.

Auditioners will read sides from the script. No monologue is required. Each auditioner will have the opportunity to read at least twice.

Women auditioning for She are asked to sing 16 bars of a song of their choice a capella.

No kissing will be required as part of the audition process, and an intimacy coordinator will be consulted during the rehearsal period.

NOTE: When auditioning, please indicate conflicts for 7 days of the week between January 31 and April 4 in case we need to add or change a rehearsal. Rehearsal location before we move into the theatre is still to be determined.

Requests for an early audition for Stage Kiss must be made no later than November 29, 2026.

Questions related to the audition process may be directed to production@curtainplayers.org.
